Five (05) waterways have been identified as navigable, including the Bénoué River. This data is sourced from the Study for the Development of the Master Plan for the Development and Operation of Waterways carried out by the consultant ARTELIA under the supervision of APN in 2015.

Built over 60 years ago, the Port of Garoua has not seen consistent activity due to silting. With this in mind, MINEPAT, with the support of the Port Authority of Douala (PAD), is holding a workshop in Garoua from 19 to 23 August 2024 to present and approve the studies carried out for the dredging project of Lake Lagdo, the Bénoué River and Lake Maga.

Chaired by the Governor of the Northern Region, Mr Jean ABATE EDI’I, the opening ceremony of the workshop was attended by several administrative authorities, including the General Manager of APN, Dr Louis EBOUPEKE.

From 28 to 30 May 2024, APN hosted a capacity-building workshop for its staff on the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Under the guidance of a panel of experts, the aim was to highlight the context in which it was created, its implementation and its operationalization in the sub-region. At the end of the workshop, the staff were greatly inspired by the concept and thanked the top management for the initiative.

National Training on Instruments

Under the patronage of the Ministry of Transport, APN hosted the National Training Course on the Tools Needed by Decision-Makers for the Successful Implementation of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers, with the following objectives:
Raise awareness of the STCW Convention and Code, the 2010 Manila Amendments, and subsequent amendments to the STCW Convention and Code.
Strengthen the capacities of key personnel involved in Cameroon in the effective implementation of the requirements of the STCW Convention.
These are the key points addressed in the work monitored by three experts appointed by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) in relation to the awareness-raising workshop on the SCTW Convention.
Under the supervision of the Ministry of Transport, this workshop, which took place from 27 to 31 May 2024, was attended by 30 officials from various national maritime and port sector stakeholders.
