OMI CONSULTANT (International Maritime Organization)

April 25, 2023 IMO (International Maritime Organization) assesses Cameroon's needs for the implementation of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers. The implementation of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) in Cameroon is the subject of a working session to be held this Monday, April 24, 2023 at the APN headquarters, preceded by an audience granted by Dr. Louis EBOUPEKE, Director General of the APN, to Mr. Laurent GALY, Consultant of the International Maritime Organization, to introduce him to his mission.
  1. Laurent GALY gave a brief summary of his mission, but dwelt on the project mentioned by his predecessor. A project he found very interesting, as he himself is Inspector General of Maritime Education at the French Secretary of State for the Sea.
A large panel of participants from PAD, PAK, DAMVN, DEPPCO, SDNSPEMVN, SDTMFL, CELSUI, CNCC, SEOB, GEPMARE, HY-CLASW, NOIAA, CMFL/Kribi, CMFL/Limbé, CMFL/Douala and other maritime experts took part in the working session, which continued in the conference room of the Ministry of Transport in the presence of the host, His Excellency Jean Ernest Masséna NGALLE BIBEHE, who insisted that Cameroon's name be included on the IMO's white list. So, from April 26 to 28, 2023, the IMO expert will visit Kribi, Edéa, Douala and Limbé in turn, to take stock of any shortcomings and needs, which will serve as a basis for establishing future technical assistance to Cameroon, to enable it to train and issue maritime certifications and certificates.
